Besides sand bags and other ugly ways of controlling erosion, are there creative ways to do this that look pretty?

Stick some rebar into the ground and put planks against them. Have the planks under the surface so that nobody can see them. but they will work as retining walls. you can place them about 6 feet apart or closer if you need.
