I am currently designing a irrigation system for a row of privacy trees that is going to stretch about 400 feet and have about 70-80 trees. I have never designed a sprinkler system before so this should be fun and challenging. I know that I want to use dripper irrigation and I am going to zone the system. Not sure how many trees in each zone or how many zones yet. I was thinking probably 7-10 trees per zone. Does anyone have any recommendations? I know there are a lot of factors to consider. I am probably going to fail on the safe side so that I know my design will be successful. Thanks for any future advice.

You should be able to run it all off one zone if using drip. Something like Techline AS made by Netafim can be run for long distances. If you have a feeder pipe halfway, you can run two lengths on either side of the tree in each direction and join the ends back up again with a flush valve in the middle where the ends meet. This will make sure the system is cleaned each time it turns on. You can use a battery operated valve which will be much cheaper if it is the only irrigation you have. Connect the valve to the water supply, run a length of poly pipe to the middle and tee into it with the Techline.

Hi there,

I agree with the other poster, in that you should be able to run it all off one zone using high quality, self flushing drip tubing.

Of course this depends on your water specs to know for sure. (PSI and GPM at point of connection)

The real issue will be how you pipe this. Can you post pictures so we can have a look and give some feedback?

Let us know.

Cheers.
